Welcome

Welcome to the official website of CEReS International Symposium on Remote Sensing 2009.

The 15th CEReS International Symposium on Remote Sensing: “Achievement and New Challenge of Environmental Remote Sensing”, will be held on December 15 and 16, 2009 at Chiba University Convention Hall.

On behalf of the Center for Environmental Remote Sensing (CEReS), Chiba University and the Organizing Committee, I am most delighted to invite you to attend the 15th CEReS International Symposium on Remote Sensing with special theme on ” Achievement and New Challenge of Environmental Remote Sensing “. The Symposium will be held on 15 to 16 December 2009 at University Convention Hall (Keyaki Kaikan), Chiba University under the auspices of Center for Environmental Remote Sensing, Chiba University.

This year, 2009, is the 60th anniversary of Chiba University, and the 15th anniversary of CEReS. More academically important thing is that CEReS has been concentrating on remote sensing research under a new project system for six years starting from 2004. This year is the time to publish academic achievements by four research projects; that is the 1st project: Monitoring and analysis of global surface environmental changes, the 2nd project: vegetation monitoring, the 3rd project: Atmospheric remote sensing and radiation budget, the 4th project: Promotion of regional environmental studies in Asia. Apart from the projects, CEReS has an important continuing activity which is “Accumulation and dissemination of satellite/geo-spatial data.” It is the main function of CEReS as a nationwide collaborating research center in remote sensing for the purpose of the promotion of remote sensing for environmental studies. In the Symposium, achievements and activities by CEReS will be published and further unsolved subjects will be discussed. Also the new research activities such as CP-SAR micro satellite and Adaptation for global warming will be discussed.

This Symposium will also provide the opportunities of academic information exchange in the wide range of environmental remote sensing studies including; sensor development such as SAR and lidar, preprocessing method of satellite data, extraction of vegetation parameters, land cover/land use mapping, atmospheric remote sensing, cryospheric remote sensing, agricultural remote sensing, climate analysis by satellite data, and any other fields in environmental remote sensing.  In addition, participants will have the information to what direction environmental remote sensing studies are going, through lectures of remote sensing experts and interactive discussions between scientists.

The Symposium will be held in Chiba University - Nishi Chiba campus at Chiba city, Japan where the door of Japan (Tokyo International Airport or Narita Airport) is located near and this city is very closed to Tokyo, the capital of Japan.

The Organizing Committee looks forward to welcoming you to the 15th CEReS International Symposium on Remote Sensing and we are sure you will also enjoy sightseeing in Chiba, Tokyo and Yokohama where you can get a glimpse of remnants of the modern and ancient Japanese culture.
