Chapter 12 : Circularly Polarized Synthetic Aperture Radar onboard Unmanned Aerial Vehicle

Preface :
The International Conference on Intelligent Unmanned Systems 2011 was organized by the International Society of Intelligent Unmanned Systems and locally by the Center for Bio-Micro Robotics Research at Chiba University, Japan. The event was the 7th conference continuing from previous conferences held in Seoul, Korea (2005, 2006), Bali, Indonesia (2007), Nanjing, China (2008), Jeju, Korea (2009), and Bali, Indonesia (2010). ICIUS 2011 focused on both theory and application, primarily covering the topics of robotics, autonomous vehicles, intelligent unmanned technologies, and biomimetics. We invited seven keynote speakers who dealt with related state-of-the-art technologies including unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and micro air vehicles (MAVs), flapping wings (FWs), unmanned ground vehicles (UGVs), underwater vehicles (UVs), bio-inspired robotics, advanced control, and intelligent systems, among others. This book is a collection of excellent papers that were updated after presentation at ICIUS2011. All papers that form the chapters of this book were reviewed and revised from the perspective of advanced relevant technologies in the field. The aim of this book is to stimulate interactions among researchers active in the areas pertinent to intelligent unmanned systems.

Differential SAR Interferometry using ROI_PAC Software : Tutorial and Implementation

Preface :
Recently, technology of spaceborne synthetic aperture radar (SAR) sensor increases drastically on resolution, polarization, coverage, observation modes etc. Some methods also are developed by employing SAR image to derive some information, i.e. Differential Interferometric SAR (DInSAR), polarimetric SAR (PolSAR) etc, to observe the Earth surface precisely. The Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA), formerly known as National Space Development Agency of Japan (NASDA), has operated two Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) systems on board satellites, namely, the Japanese Earth Resources Satellite Synthetic Aperture Radar (JERS-1 SAR) and the Advanced Land Observation Satellite – Phased Array type L-band Synthetic Aperture Radar (ALOS PALSAR). Then ALOS-2 PALSAR-2 will be launched in the near future. In this book, we will discuss the DInSAR to measure the land surface deformation using SAR image by employing shareware, ROI_PAC software. We could employ this software to process some SAR images, i.e. JERS-1 SAR, ALOS PALSAR, Radarsat etc, especially we will discuss by using ALOS PALSAR (RESTEC and ERSDAC formats) in this book.
The SAR sensor is an active sensor that can observe objects during the day or night. This satellite image was analyzed by using various methods in order to extract physical information such as interferometry, soil moisture, biomass, and soil type data. The application of SAR sensors for Earth surface observation of, for example, land deformation, the cryosphere, agriculture, forestry, and ocean dynamics, has also been proposed. The authors hope readers could employ this book to learn the basic of DInSAR and implement this method into the research and other activities of readers.
The authors would like to thank to Chiba University, ISAS-JAXA, ESA, LAPAN, Tokyo University, MEXT, JICA, JST, JSPS, NICT, AIST, Weathernews, JAMSS, PASCO and other domestic and overseas colleagues who support research and academic activity in Josaphat Microwave Remote Sensing Laboratory, Center for Environmental Remote Sensing, Chiba University, Japan.

Subject: Environmental Remote Sensing

Preface :
Biomass has been an intimate companion of humans from the dawn of civilization to the present. Its use as food, energy source, body cover and as construction material established the key areas of biomass usage that extend to this day. Given the complexities of biomass as a source of multiple end products, this volume sheds new light to the whole spectrum of biomass related topics by highlighting the new and reviewing the existing methods of its detection, production and usage. We hope that the readers will find valuable information and exciting new material in its chapters.

Microstrip Antennas
BookMicrostripantennaEdited by: Nasimuddin NasimuddinISBN 978-953-307-247-0, Hard cover, 540 pages
Publisher: InTech
Publication date: April 2011
Subject: Antennas and Propagation

In the last 40 years, the microstrip antenna has been developed for many communication systems such as radars, sensors, wireless, satellite, broadcasting, ultra-wideband, radio frequency identifications (RFIDs), reader devices etc. The progress in modern wireless communication systems has dramatically increased the demand for microstrip antennas. In this book some recent advances in microstrip antennas are presented.
